Abstract Photographs

All of the following abstract photographs are created “in-camera” and are not created through digital manipulation, but rather by capturing light with the camera’s sensor. These photos are part of an ongoing series of experimental photographs started in 2015. The goal of this project is to work in a state of constant experimentation, pushing the boundaries and expectations of how photographs are taken, what a photograph are, and what photographs can capture. To convey not only a representation, but also perhaps a mood, an emotion, a thought, some time, some space, some of the essence.

This project is a direct response to counter a drive towards every greater levels of technical perfectionism in photography. Especially landscape photography.

Working in a new mode I work to capture images that have not been captured before. To “see” things that have not been seen before. To use my camera as a tool to tell a story about a place that cannot be captured by traditional photographic methods. To capture something more subtle, more elusive and more expressive.
